Eligibility Criteria for NARSAD 2022 Young Investigator Grant

These are the criteria governing the disbursal of the NARSAD Young Investigator (YI) grant:

Applicants of diverse ethnicities, cultures, geographic locations, etc., are encouraged.
Applicants should have a doctoral-level degree (such as M.D. with (minimum PGY-IV) training, Psy.D., Ph.D., Pharma.D., etc.) and be employed in research training or at a faculty research position. The YI grant is granted to advanced post-doctoral fellows, assistant professors, instructors, or equivalent. Pre-doctoral students, first-year post-doctoral fellows and faculty who served as P.I. on an NIH R01 grant are ineligible for this grant, however.
Applicants should have a senior collaborator or on-site mentor who is an established investigator in studies dealing with psychiatric disorders.
Applicants can only apply twice for the first BBRF Young Investigator Grant.
The funding is up to $35,000 annually for up to two years. This funding does not cover institutional overhead costs.
The grant allows flexibility in using funds, such as for stipends, equipment, etc., considering that it supports the Young Investigator research project.
Only one Principal Investigator (P.I.) is allowed per application.

All applications are to be submitted online at www.bbrfoundation.org/YI with a filled online form and to be uploaded in a single PDF document file.
Every section of the application should be on a separate page. Please follow the order of the application as instructed.
Clearly label each section and include the applicant’s name in the upper-right corner of every page.
Face Sheet – On the Face Sheet, you must include the names of all Scientific Council Members. Also, provide a 250-word statement on how your proposal fits the Foundation’s aim.
Abstract—Create and attach an abstract of fewer than 500 words that summarizes the research project in conventional terms. If the proposal is funded, the Foundation can use it in its announcements.
Application C.V. – Create and attach an NIH Biosketch or Biography portion of curriculum vitae (C.V.), with current grant support listed clearly.
Proposal – A 2-page proposal letter from the applicant is required, which outlines training and significant project goals that are to be accomplished within the grant period. A representative project needs to highlight insignificant details to clarify sample size, significance, hypothesis, feasibility, and central methodology. All figures, diagrams, tables, etc. should be included in the 2-page proposal.
Research Training / Career Plans – Create a ½ page brief description of current and recently-concluded research training along with your future career plans. This grant can also extend fellowships and provide early faculty support.
Budget – A 1-page budget description specifies the amount requested through a brief justification and indicates whether the applicant is applying for the 1-year or 2-year grant. Fund requests should be below $35,000 per year. The applicant should state clearly how the grant will contribute towards improving their research study and highlight the impact of the grant.
